TCS New York City Marathon Team Water for People
On November 2nd, 2015, the NJWEA’s new Young Professionals Co-Chair Megan Livak ran the TCS New York City Marathon. She began her journey in Staten Island at the base of the Verrazano Bridge and ran the 26.2 miles through New York City’s 5 Boroughs, finishing in Central Park. She ran for Team Water for People, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to creating reliable, safe drinking water resources, improved sanitation facilities, and hygiene education programs in the developing world, with the belief that Everyone should have access to clean water and proper sanitation Forever. Megan exceeded her fundraising goal of $2,500 and raised $2,730. As a whole, her team raised $31,935. All donations directly financed water and sanitation programs in Africa, India, Central America and South America. 100th Year Anniversary Gala YP Hosted Silent Auction
This past year marked the NJWEA’s 100th Year Anniversary. The Association celebrated in October with a 100 Year Gala. The YP Committee hosted a Silent Auction at the Gala that consisted of 21 Baskets. We had over 30 sponsorships and raised over $3,000! Proceeds went towards the purchase of Water Monitoring Kits through WEF to be given to the NJ Science Teachers Association for distribution to underserved schools. Thank you to all of our sponsors and winners!
Operation Jersey Shore Santa
After the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, the AWWA and NJWEA Young Professionals collaborated in an effort to assist Sandy victims with recovery in the aftermath of the superstorm.
The two YP Committee’s organized a Gift Card Donation Drive. Gift cards were donated to Operation Jersey Shore Santa – a group of volunteers that used their website and social media to organize lists of families in need and provide whatever help they could through monetary and gift donations on their website. We collected $5,125 worth of gift cards. Thank you to all that participated!
