The North Section Scholarship Awards


The Scholarship Program of the North Jersey Section proudly provides annual scholarships to support students who have demonstrated an interest in the NJWEA and the advancement of the environmental profession. All Scholarships are awarded at the Annual Frank S. Miller Dinner Dance and Awards Night typically held in March.

Awards:
Up to Three (3) Section Legacy Scholarships in the amount up to $2,500 and One (1) David N. Baker Memorial Scholarship for national or community service in the amount up to $2,500 will be awarded at the NJWEA North Section Awards Dinner.
 
Legacy Eligibility Requirements:
The applicant must be a Child or Grandchild of a member who has been in good standing of the North Jersey Section, NJWEA for at least two (2) consecutive years by the application deadline.
A high school senior in good standing who has applied to a college or university with the interest of pursuing a course of study in Science, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences or preparation to become a teacher in these fields. The student must show proof of enrollment in the specified and related program at a two- or four-year college or university in September to receive a scholarship check.

Selection Process:
Judging will be made on the basis of each student’s academic record, participation in extracurricular activities, evidence of leadership and letters of recommendation.

Scholarship Procedures:

  1. A completed application must be submitted and accompanied by a letter(s) of recommendation on school letterhead from the Principal, Assistant Principal, Guidance Counselor, Math or Science Teacher. The completed application must be submitted by January 15th for it to be reviewed and considered.

  2. Applicants must submit their scholarship application to the Scholarship Chairman or the President of the North Jersey Section, NJWEA who will check if the parent or guardian is a member in good standing in the North Jersey Section, NJWEA and then forward it to the Education Committee for further processing and evaluation.

  3. The Education Committee along with the Executive Board will evaluate and review all applications.

  4. After the review process and a nominee has been selected, the President will notify the applicant by letter.

  5. The intended recipient shall acknowledge his or her acceptance of the award in writing to the President of the North Jersey Section- NJWEA.

  6. Funds will be released directly to the Recipient upon receipt of an acceptable copy of a bursar’s receipt for attendance at an accredited institution.
